     These little details could drive you nuts in the long run.  So definitely take the time to notice them!

Seams


They should be almost invisible in solid surface and stainless.  Other counters should have a seam less than 1/16."  Any more than that indicates a sloppy installation as shown here.  >


Edge Choices


Trimming laminate counters with wood can create a high end look while preventing chipping.  For stone counters, rounded edges are less likely to chip.  Straight and beveled edges give a more modern look, whereas an ogee edge will look much more traditional.


Finishes


Most solid surface counters are sold with either glossy or matte finishes.  Both of these are equal in fighting stains, however a matte finish will help conceal scratches and fingerprints.  Concrete counters can be sealed either topically or by penetration.   Topical seals resist stains, and penetrating seals resist heat.
